City of New Orleans officials and community leaders gathered Friday, Aug. 29, to commemorate the 20th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina with an annual wreath laying ceremony.
The Inner Harbor Navigation Canal barrier is protecting vulnerable communities, like the Lower 9th Ward, from dangerous storm surge. Located on Lake Borgne, the 26-foot-tall, 1.8-mile-long protective infrastructure was constructed by the Army Corps of Engineers post-Hurricane Katrina.
