NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — In front of thousands holding signs like “keep our NooDoo and VooDoo forever,” the New Orleans VooDoo brought their long overdue magic to the turf Saturday night.
With a win over the Tampa Bay Storm 65-53.
“It was good to see it all come together for the guys. They’ve really been working hard all year. It’s a good group of guys. A lot of young players, and this is the team we’ve aspired to be all year.”
After trailing the entire first half, the team began clicking on all cylinders.
In the third, Quarterback Adam Kennedy hooked up with Roger Jackson aka Spider-Man for a 35 yard touchdown to take the lead 30-28.
Then Kennedy took care of business on his own to increase the VooDoo lead 44-28.
“It was good, I’ve been telling coach earlier in the year, you can use me down the goal line I’m a pretty big guy. So tonight, luckily it worked out for us,” Adam Kennedy said after the game.
It worked out for receiver Chris Duvault too as he surpassed 100 receptions this season.
“It feels good that we got a win. I just do everything in my power to try to help the team win in anyway possible. So 100 catches or 3 catches, I’m glad that we won,” said Duvault.
On the otherside of the ball, Cameron McGlenn set a franchise record of 207 tackles. “We played with a lot of energy. We haven’t been having fun all season so for the last time, for the fans, and the whole city of New Orleans , we just tried to do our best and we came out with a win.”
The future of the VooDoo is uncertain with the league taking over.
And although dedicated fans have only seen the VooDoo win three times, it’s clear they want the VooDoo to stay.
“This is what it could be like here. I was here with the old AFL, with the Nashville Cash, I played here with the Georgia Force. This place was always an awesome place to play. When you get the fans here and the energy in the building. We had that tonight. It was really awesome, hopefully this is a start of something new here.”
