NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) – The Pelicans gave it the old college try Wednesday night, without their star.
Trailing by 12 at half, the Pelicans took the lead in the fourth quarter, only to go cold, losing at Orlando 89-82.
“We had good looks,” head coach Alvin Gentry said. “We just didn’t make enough shots.”
The Pelicans made only 30 of 82 field goal attempts.
Without Anthony Davis, who was sidelined by a quad injury, the Pelicans’ Terrence Jones scored 26 points and grabbed 9 rebounds.
Buddy Hield’s basket from the left baseline briefly gave New Orleans a 70-69 lead.
Former Brother Martin star DJ Augustin scored 11 points off the bench for the Magic.
New Orleans, 2-10, plays Portland Friday night at the Smoothie King Centre.
The Pelicans have yet to record a win over a Western Conference team this season.
