NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — The wife of New Orleans Pelicans former head coach Monty Williams is dead. Ingrid Williams died Wednesday as the result of injuries suffered in a car accident Tuesday night.
A car crossed lanes and hit her head on. She was 44 years old. She was a mother of 5.
Before Wednesday’s game against the Utah Jazz, the Pelicans had a moment of silence and prayed for the Williams’ family. Pelicans Jrue Holiday said it’s hard to believe.
“Obviously, we are all blessed to play this game of basketball. But, family comes before that. I know most of the guys just keep on thinking about our families about his family,” he said.
The following statement was released on behalf of New Orleans Pelicans and Saints Owners Tom and Gayle Benson:
“The New Orleans Pelicans are devastated to hear the news of Ingrid Williams’ passing. Ingrid was beloved by the Pelicans organization and the New Orleans community and will forever be remembered as one of the most generous, kind and humble individuals we’ve ever know. Our thoughts and prayers are with Monty Williams and his family during this difficult time.”
