The closest you can get to ‘humidity-proof’ make up and hair

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) – The struggle is real for women in Louisiana during the summer. Between battling the humidity and the sudden thunderstorms, keeping your hair and make-up looking fresh is next to impossible, but these beauty tips will help you look your best during the dog days of summer.

  1. Primer: “If your goal is to keep your makeup looking perfect and matte in the summertime and heat, you want to pay attention to the primers. You just use an anti-shine primer in the t-zone or in the areas where you have a lot of shine and oiliness,” said make-up artist Midori Tajiri-Byrd. “Same thing for the eyes. If you apply any eye makeup and shadow, you really need to use an eye primer.” Primers vary in price from a brand you can find at CVS to department store prices with similar results.
  2. Illuminators: The second option if you’re trying to beat the heat is embrace the dewiness. It’s gonna be hot. It’s gonna be humid in the summertime anyway. You can use illuminators. “You can use anything bronzy, but going for a cream format you want to keep it isolated to just height of the cheek bones and on the eyes rather than doing a lot of eyeliner which is just going to melt anyway. Going for a really soft glowing eye color,” said Midori. She recommends local brand Kismet Cosmetics illumination “Lovely”
  3. Eyelash extensions: Lash extensions are a great option for anybody who doesn’t want to fuss with mascara and worry about it running down their face. They will shed off, with normal wear and tear the bond of the glue will wear over time. They will shed out when your natural lash sheds too. Normal refills are required about every 2-4 weeks. The lashes are very lightweight and soft. “We apply each extension individually one by one. It’s not gonna cause any additional damage so it’s definitely safe to do all of your fun activities during the summer while you have the lashes done,” said lead lash artist at Hi-Brow Beauty Bar, Jessica Kairouz. Lash extensions cost about $200 for the first set and then $60 to refill.
  4. Microblading is the newest tattooing make-up trend. For those who spend time shaping their eyebrows with pencils and product, this could be the answer to your prayers. It is done using a very fine blade to deposit pigments into the epidermis. Because we’re impacting color closer to the surface, the strokes appear crisp and very fine. There is no “spilling” under the skin. This method is ideal for anyone wanting to enhance the look of their eyebrows. The results are natural looking, hair-like strokes, regardless of the amount of actual hair present. Please visit the Hi-Brow website to schedule a consultation.
  5. Top knot: In just two minutes you can match celebs’ favorite hair styles, and all you need are two bobby pins and rubber band. Section the top part of your hair off and separate. Pull the top into a pony and split the pony in two, wrap one section counterclockwise and pin, and then repeat with the other section going clockwise and pin. Voila!
  6. Messy braid: This also only requires a bobby pin and hair tie, get creative and twist a second of your hair on one side of your head and pin it before braiding so there is an added dimension to your braid!
