Monday afternoon, the SWAT team for the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office surrounded a street in Marrero.

Deputies say they were called to execute a protective order on a man.  They say they ordered the SWAT team to assist, just as a precaution, after finding out that the man, identified as 43 year old Thomas Marie, Jr., had a military background.

JPSO Colonel John Fortunato said the SWAT team was just beginning to get into place when the man walked outside his home in the 5800 block of  St. John Avenue.

“While we were getting in position, some of the SWAT operators that were near the residence observed Mr. Marie come outside with some trash in his hands,” Fortunato said.  “He was taken into custody without incident.”

Fortunato said that the man would get checked out by doctors, but he said privacy laws prevented him from commenting further on the details of the case and the protective order.
