NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) – Singer Charmaine Neville is reacting to the double murder-suicide in her neighborhood.
It happened early Tuesday morning in the Bywater.
Charmaine Neville lives a few doors down from the scene. She talked to WGNO News Reporter Darian Trotter about her long-time neighbors, and the tragedy that’s now under investigation.
Crime scene investigators fanned out near Pauline and N. Rampart Street early Tuesday morning.
Their attention centered on the house where three adult bodies were found inside.
Investigators say 55-year old Christopher Conrad fatally shot his older siblings before turning the gun on himself.
Trotter asked Neville, “Shocking, sad? Very sad, and yes shocked, very shocked because just a nice person and I can’t even imagine him doing something like that; killing two other people and then killing himself, because there was no indication of any kind of strife or problems or anything,” she replied.
Police say Conrad’s body was found along with those of his sister, 60-year old Terry Conrad, and brother, 58-year old Billy Conrad.
It was Terry’s husband, who forced his way into the home, after being unable to contact his wife.
Singer Charmaine Neville is a long-time neighbor who’s saddened by the news.
“Because just yesterday he got out his van and I was walking my puppies and we spoke to each other, and we’d speak to each other every day. You know, we’d see each other and we’d speak.”
She says Conrad had difficulty coping with the loss of his mother and grandmother.
He was their primary care-giver. Neville knew them all.
“I’ll miss him; I’ll miss him because they were good neighbors.”
“I just hope they can figure out what caused him to go off like this, you know, that’s all I hope is they really can tell what happened.”
Police have not determined a motive for the deaths.
