New Orleans Police Superintendent Ronal Serpas says thanks to the information that officers have received from New Orleans residents, the NOPD has identified a suspect in the murder of Curtis Matthews.
Superintendent Serpas called a late-night news conference Thursday to announce that an arrest warrant has been issued for 35-year-old Walter Porter.
“This police department has been focusing its resources entirely since last Saturday night with an around-the-clock effort to put a name and a face on the man who shot and killed Curtis Matthews last Saturday night,” Serpas said in front of NOPD Headquarters. “I am pleased to say tonight that because of the help of so many New Orleanians, so many New Orleanians, we have done just that.”
On Tuesday, Mayor Mitch Landrieu announced that the reward had been increased to $15,000 for information leading to the arrest of the person who killed Matthews. Matthews was going to be a key witness in another murder trial, for Telly Hankton.
Anyone with information about Porter’s location should call Crimestoppers at 504-822-1111.
