BUSH, La. (WGNO) — Two people face murder charges on the North Shore after a toxicology report released this week revealed a 15-year-old girl died of a fentanyl overdose last month. According to the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office, 20-year-old Alvin Laurent and 41-year-old Felisia Grantham, a relative of the victim, will be charged with second-degree murder.

According to the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a Bush-area residence about 15 miles northeast of Covington on July 12. The 911 call indicated a 15-year-old was possibly suffering from a drug overdose. Despite first responders’ efforts to revive her, the teenager died.

Through the investigation, detectives learned that the teen had a history of abusing prescription pain medication, particularly the drug Percocet — a combination of oxycodone and acetaminophen. Investigators found what believed were Percocet pills in the girl’s home, however, an evaluation revealed the tablets were laced with fentanyl.

Grantham, a relative of the victim, is accused of purchasing counterfeit drugs from Laurent. Both were jailed on separate charges related to the teenager’s death. Upon the release of the toxicology reports, the two were charged with second-degree murder. You can read the full list of charges below.
