COVINGTON, La. — The City of Covington has ordered a voluntary evacuation for multiple locations due to the threat of significant flooding.
Officials say the Little Tchefuncte River at S. Tyler St./Hwy. 21 and the Bogue Falaya River at Boston Street are rising to historical proportions due to heavy rains north of the area.
There is a high probability water will reach the streets, and possibly the homes, in the areas listed below.
Authorities are asking anyone living in these areas to carefully consider evacuating your homes before dark. A shelter has been set up at Covington High School.
“If you live on or near these rivers, there is a high probability water will reach your street and possibly your home. I am asking you to carefully consider evacuating your home before dark or as early as possible,” Covington Mayor Mike Cooper said in a special statement.
As of Friday at 5 p.m., 200 people had been rescued from around Covington and Folsom mostly along Highway 45.

- S. New Hampshire St
- Independence St
- S. Vermont Ave
- Boston Street Towers
- Areas on or near the Bogue Falaya River from Boston Street to Bogue Falaya Drive in Old Landing
- S. 8th Ave
- Samantha Drive in River Forest
- Patricia Dr.
- Cherokee Ln
- Mile Branch Ct.
- Cleveland St
- The end of East 31st Avenue at Cherokee Lane
- Areas along any other waterways or tributaries
- E. 29th Ave (east of Hwy 437)
- E. Jesse Jones St.
