SLIDELL, La. (WGNO) – Compassionate Burials for Indigent Babies (CBIB) is a non-profit dedicated to providing burials for babies who otherwise would not have one.

On Thursday, they buried a baby girl who was found last month in a Slidell apartment complex trash compactor. CBIB believes that all life is sacred.  They told WGNO video journalist Alyson Titkemeyer that unwanted babies are often not give a proper funeral and are buried in mass graves or considered medical waste.  The group wants to give dignity to the children by providing them with a proper burial.

More importantly they want to get the word out about Safe Haven laws.  Louisiana’s Safe Haven law states that “If you are unable to care for your baby and the baby’s well-being is in danger, you can bring the newborn up to 60 days old to an emergency designated facility or Safe Haven site.”

CBIB is a non-profit and is always looking for donations. Donations can be made at www.gofundme.com/cbibabies or mailed to CBIB, POB#778, Lacombe, LA 70445.
