NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) – The summer is usually the busiest time of year for weddings, but on Saturday in New Orleans, that wasn’t the case, as the city commemorated Katrina’s anniversary.

According to photographer, Geovanni Velasquez, he believes there was only one wedding in town on the anniversary.  He took pictures for Steve Wade and Nicoya Hogan’s wedding, which was held at the Popp Fountain in City Park. The couple says many vendors weren’t booking any weddings on the Katrina anniversary.

Their wedding went on without a hitch.  The couple said they wanted to get married on the anniversary because it was “cleansing” and a “new beginning”.   The couple is currently honeymooning in the Dominican Republic.
