GRETNA, La. (WGNO) – Another brief hearing for 17-year-old Brady Becker Friday, literally lasting maybe a minute. His court date was pushed back again to June 25, 2015.
You probably remember Becker from the video that went viral in March, showing a JPSO deputy beating Becker up in the Lakeside Parking Garage during Mardi Gras.
Sheriff Newell Normand said that force was necessary during Becker’s arrest, but Becker’s lawyer says that force was excessive.
They have filed a lawsuit against the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office’ for $5,000,000, a million for each time he was punched. We will have to see how that lawsuit plays out, but at this time the district attorney has not moved ahead with ‘resisting arrest’ and ‘battery of a police officer’ charges. We’ll see if they make a decision next month.
Becker appeared in court today with his family, but the judge told him today he doesn’t have to appear at the next court hearing unless he is subpoenaed.
