NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — Cancer survivors were invited to join in a day of pampering Monday. The Survivor Glam Squad was launched by the Peter Coppola makeover program to help give women back what they lost during their battle with cancer: their self-esteem.
Nationally, the program takes place in salons and provides a day of facials, hair styling, makeup tutorials, followed by a photo shoot. However, the results go further than the eye can see. In an interview with News with a Twist reporter, Meghan Kluth, cancer survivor Shannon Chavez remarked, “It feels so good to be able to wake up today and know that you didn’t have to think about anything else, you got to come and get pampered and it’s an extraordinary feeling.”
Cancer not only changes the way you feel but also the way you look. Some lose hair during chemotherapy, and some never regain confidence after their treatment. The program is designed to help women feel beautiful again, and if they’ve lost something in their fight they hope to be able to give it back
Monday was the very first time the Peter Coppola and Survivor Glam Squad team had visited New Orleans and their first stop was at the Parlor Salon on Magazine, but they plan to return. To get involved with their cause please visit http://www.survivorglamsquad.org/.
