NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) – The NOPD announced that Officer James Cunningham has been placed on emergency suspension without pay after he was arrested early Monday morning in the 500 block of Patterson Drive for his involvement in a domestic incident.

Around 5:30 a.m., Cunningham was involved in a verbal altercation with a female victim that turned physical. The victim advised police that during the altercation, Cunningham grabbed her, threatened her and refused to allow her to leave the residence.

After an initial investigation, members of the NOPD Public Integrity Bureau arrested Cunningham for Domestic Abuse Battery and False Imprisonment.

Following the arrest, the NOPD Public Integrity Bureau (PIB) placed Cunningham on emergency suspension without pay.

Cunningham is an eight-year veteran of the NOPD. Cunningham has been on Administrative Reassignment due to his previous arrest on January 13, 2015, for Simple Battery and Home Invasion.
