NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) – NOPD officers arrested a McDonogh 35 High School student after authorities discovered a handgun in his backpack Thursday morning.
17-year-old Horace Anderson will be booked with carrying a firearm on school property.
According to police, school officials met Anderson and other students at a location off-campus where they discovered the gun in a backpack. School officials then called the NOPD to the school to conduct an investigation.
Anderson is cooperating with detectives and the initial investigation shows there was no direct threat made to any other students.
No other arrests have been made at this time. The NOPD Third District is in charge of the investigation.
