JACKSON COUNTY, Miss. (WGNO) – A New Orleans man is accused of killing a transgender woman at a hotel in Mississippi Saturday.
According to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department, 25-year-old Dee Whigham of Shubuta, Mississippi, was in the Pascagoula-Biloxi area with friends for the Gulf Coast Black Rodeo.
Investigators believe Whigham was stabbed to death, and 20-year-old Dwayne Hickerson of New Orleans has been arrested for capital murder in connection with her death.
Hickerson, who is in the U.S. Navy and was assigned to Keesler Air Force Base for training, was identified by surveillance video from the hotel.
Investigators say Hickerson also robbed the victim.
