ROBERT, LA – A Slidell man died at a hospital after he was airlifted from the scene of a single car crash on I-12 near Robert that briefly closed the westbound lanes of traffic this morning.

The accident near milepost 51 occurred around 7:30 a.m. on April 19, according to the Louisiana State Police.

Thirty-two-year-old Nathan Danial Irby was traveling west on I-12 when his 2003 Ford Explorer left the road and slammed into a tree.

The cause of the crash has yet to be determined, according to the LSP, and the investigation is ongoing.

Irby was properly restrained, but he was seriously injured and later died at North Oaks Health Systems.
