NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) – Fencing has gone up underneath the Pontchartrain Expressway along Calliope Street. The move is forcing the homeless to set up camp somewhere else.

The city of New Orleans announced their plan to create four parking lots under the overpass last month.

The parking lots will be fenced and will be returned to commerce as managed parking. The New Orleans Building Corporation cited a need for parking in the CBD for the project.

The fencing is estimated to cost $332,000.
