NEW ORLEANS – Mayor Cantrell, along with other elected officials, community and civic leaders, commemorated the 14th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina with a wreath laying ceremony.
The Katrina Memorial, at 5056 Canal Street, is the site where almost 100 unclaimed or unidentified victims of Hurricane Katrina were laid to rest.
The ceremony took place on 8/29 at 8:29 A.M.
“As Hurricane Dorian approaches Florida, we are mindful of what we experienced here during Katrina on the 14th anniversary. Let us all remember how far we have come, be grounded in love so we can move forward together,” said Mayor Cantrell.
The event was sponsored by the Crescent City Funeral Directors and Embalmers Association and was co-sponsored by the Katrina Memorial Foundation and the City of New Orleans.
The City Council made official by proclamation that the event would be the official Katrina event marking the anniversary.
