ASSUMPTION PARISH,LA (WGNO)– Nothing says happy holidays like the glow of Christmas lights, and one guy in Assumption Parish has a lights display he says is bigger than Al Copeland’s was. His display was even featured on ABC’s “The Great Christmas Light Fight.”

There’s no way Kris Kringle could miss Ray Daigle’s home in the small community of Paincourtville.

“Just seeing all the lights,” Ray Daigle, said, “It’s just like you see this in Disney World not in Paincourtville or Louisiana.”

Daigle is the king of Christmas lights in Assumption Parish.

“I love Christmas time, because you are giving of yourself to the community,” He said.

Spotlights on top his home can be seen for miles and help guide drivers to his display. Once people arrive they are filled with the Christmas spirit.

“The first year I put 35,000 lights up then I went up to 2 million. Now I`m at 2 million,” Daigle said.

His display features things like a Ferris wheel, a train, Santa’s sleigh, and sometimes even Santa himself stops by.

Daigle doesn’t charge the thousands of people who drive in to see his cool Christmas décor.

Instead, he asks that you bring in a toy or make a donation to help kids in need.

“The biggest thing we do is for toys for tots,” Daigle said. “We’ve collected over 60 bags, 100 gallon bags of toys, and about $3,000 in checks and cash this year.”

You can see the twinkling trimmings every night through January 3, weather permitting.

Just watch out for Mr. Ray!

“All these cars that are driving through they love the lights. One of them ran into me the other day . I was road kill.”

Making the Christmas magic happen takes a lot of work, so Daigle calls in the reinforcements: his family.

“They`re excited. All my grand-kids are excited to help out and put everything together,” Daigle said.

The display takes 45 days for the Daigle family to assemble.

Daigle wasn’t always Mr. Christmas. Daigle says 13 years ago his life changed.

“I was Mr. Grinch. I hated Christmas. 9/11 changed me to where I had to give,” Daigle said.

“I started putting up lights the more lights,” Daigle later stated. “I put up the better I felt. It was part of therapy to me for me.”

If you find yourself having a blue Christmas, Mr. Ray suggests trying to add some lights to your home.

“If you are a Grinch right now, everybody out there please understand when you put a Christmas light out you are giving some hope to somebody,” Daigle said.

But if putting up lights still isn’t your thing, you can always go check out Mr. Daigle’s display located in the 6100 block of Highway 1 in Assumption Parish.

“Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from Paincourtville, Louisiana,” exclaimed Ray Daigle.
