NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — Deputy Mayor Andy Kopplin is leaving New Orleans City Hall to be the new President and CEO of the Greater New Orleans Foundation.

Kopplin joined the city after Mayor Mitch Landrieu was first elected.  Since arriving in 2010, his titles included Chief Administrative Officer along with Deputy Mayor.  Along with overseeing daily operations at City Hall, Kopplin was also in charge of crunching the numbers and making the city’s budget work.

Earlier this year, Kopplin was among two finalists for the job of president at the University of New Orleans. In March, UNO Provost John Nicklow was selected for the job.

Prior to working for the City of New Orleans, Kopplin worked for Louisiana governors Kathleen Blanco and Mike Foster as well as the Louisiana Recovery Authority after hurricanes Katrina and Rita.

The Greater New Orleans Foundation is one of the oldest and largest philanthropic organizations in the region.  It works to address the needs in the area and to build consensus plans to meet them.  Later this year, the group plans to open its Center for Philanthropy on Lee Circle.

Kopplin is set to leave his post with the city in mid-August.  At GNOF, he will replace Albert Ruesga who served as president and CEO of the group since 2009.
