Deputies say Ferrera attempted to turn left on to I-10 Service Road from Clearview Pkwy. shortly after 8:30 p.m. when he struck the motorcyclist. After the initial accident, witnesses told police at the scene, Ferrera attempted to drive away but couldn’t because the motorcycle was wedge under his SUV.

Deputies also say the Metairie man had four people in the car, three were children who were not wearing seat belts.

The cyclist has been identified as Ewin “EJ”  Zelaya. He was taken to East Jefferson General Hospital where he was pronounced dead shortly after arriving.
