LACOMBE, La. (WGNO) – 56-year-old Barry Dick is asking the community for a new kidney. Unfortunately, no one in his family was a positive match except his son, who, due to a medical condition was unable to donate.

Barry has nine children and nine grandchildren.

His ex-wife Cindy and the mother of his kids says it’s the family strength that’s helped keep him alive all these years.

Barry was born with a faulty kidney to begin with and undergoes dialysis three times a week to make sure his current kidney stays functioning.

But that kidney is only working at 18% capacity and Barry’s time is becoming more and more limited each day.

Cindy says Barry is a very kindhearted man, who, if the tables were turned, would gladly donate his own kidney to save a life.

And perhaps it’s part of the family spirit.

Although Barry’s daughter Amanda isn’t a match for her father, she’s on the waiting list to be a potential donor for another man in need.

Barry’s blood type is O+.

If you’re interested in potentially donating a kidney to help Barry and his family, you’re asked to call the Donor Transplant Center at Ochsner Medical Center: 504-842-3925.

All you need is Barry’s full name: Barry Dick and his birth date: 8/1/1959.
