captureFormer NOPD Lieutenant Robert Italiano took the stand in his defense Wednesday afternoon at federal court.

Italiano is accused of lying to the FBI about the existence of a police report filed months after Henry Glover was killed.

The report in question was written December 2nd, 2005. Italiano was interviewed by the FBI in 2009. Italiano’s attorney, Steven Lemoine asked him in court, “Did you have any intent to deceive the FBI?” Italiano replied, “No sir. I had forgotten there was a report written.”

Italiano is also accused of telling FBI agents there was no connection between an officer involved shooting on September 2nd, 2005 and a burned body that was discovered in a car behind the levee. The defendant told the jury he honestly didn’t think the two were related but today admitted, “Had I not reached the wrong conclusion, maybe we would’ve investigated and maybe we wouldn’t be sitting here today.”
