The Season 7 finale of “Castle” left Stana Katic’s role on the show up in the air: Will NYPD Detective Kate Beckett choose to pursue a new challenge or will she stay where she is? Making it all the more a nail biter, Katic hadn’t yet renewed her contract.

No need to wait until fall to see how it plays out though. ABC announced on Tuesday (May 12) that Katic will remain a part of the “Castle” family, returning alongside of Nathan Fillion for Season 8 of the drama.

Even better news for viewers is that ABC doesn’t see an end in sight for “Castle,” even though the series is now under the leadership of new showrunners, Terence Paul Winter and “The Following”s’ Alexi Hawley. ABC President Paul Lee says that both “Castle” and “Grey’s Anatomy” have a ways to go before it’s closing time.

“No, absolutely not the final seasons of either [show],” Lee tells reporters. “I would like to see them run for many, many years to come. They’re both powerful, vibrant brands. They have incredibly passionate audiences.”

“Castle” Season 8 will return to its Monday night home of 9 p.m. CT in the fall.
