WESTWEGO, La. (WGNO) – At just 30 minutes from New Orleans, Bayou Segnette State Park is the place to be to unwind and get away from all the usual hustle and bustle. And what better way to do so than to laze the day away on a floating cabin?
There are 16 floating cabins along the Marcello Canal at Bayou Segnette.
The metal cabins are replacing previous wood-framed lodgings that were wiped out during Hurricane Katrina.
“In the event of another storm or hurricane again they will rise. That way we won’t receive any water damage inside the cabins,” says Bayou Segnette State Park Manager Stanford Williams.
The new and improved cabins have a living room with a leather sofa and seats. Even DIRECTV is an option at this camp site. Plus, there’s a kitchen, master bedroom, bunk beds and a bathroom. You can even fish off the side of the porch. There’s a cleaning station for all those fish you plan to catch and a place to BBQ, too.
It’s really more like “glamping” than camping.
Campers are encouraged to dock their boat alongside their temporary home as well. And you can make it to the Gulf of Mexico from Marcello Canal. It’s a trip that, depending on the size of your vessel, will take about an hour-and-a-half to complete. And when your day trip is over and you’re ready to wind down, you can rest assured knowing your temporary homestead is not only safe, but serene.
