NEW ORLEANS, La. (WGNO) — The New Orleans Police Department began investigating a shooting in the St. Claude area Wednesday (Feb. 1st).

According to reports, around 9:18 p.m. officers responded to a call of shots fired in the 3900 block of North Claiborne Avenue. At the scene, deputies said they found a 20-year-old woman suffering from a graze gunshot wound to the back.

Police later determined the shooting occurred in the 1800 block of Poland Avenue.

According to details released in the NOPD’s Major Offense Log on Thursday morning, an argument occurred between the victim and the suspect that eventually became physical. The suspect then fired a weapon that struck the woman, then ran away.

The suspect has been described only as a male. His identity was not disclosed in the early reports of the shooting.
