UPDATE:  Police say the bellman who was shot does not work at the Ritz Carlton but at another hotel instead.

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — New Orleans police arrested one man following a carjacking and shooting early Saturday morning.

It happened at the corner of Canal and Rampart streets at about 1:30 Saturday, December 17.

According to police, a driver for a ride-sharing service picked up a woman at a downtown hotel.  Police say as the driver and passenger were stopped at the light at the intersection, a man with a gun got out of a silver car and demanded that the driver and passenger get out of their car.

At that point, according to police, the ride-sharing company driver pulled his own gun and opened fire.  The carjacker was not hit, but a bellman at another hotel was.  Police describe his injury as non life threatening.

Initially, police said the bellman worked at the Ritz but later said he is a worker at another hotel.

Police say they arrested the carjacker.  He’s identified as Andre Satcher.  Also according to police, the crime and arrest happened on Satcher’s 28th birthday.  He’s booked with carjacking and robbery charges.
