PRAIRIEVILLE, La. (WGNO) – A St. James man has been arrested in connection with the body found Monday afternoon by a grass-cutting crew on I-10 West in Ascension Parish.
State Police said Brodnick Whittington, 25, was arrested for felony hit and run, obstruction of justice, driving under suspension and open container.
Troopers said they responded about 10:30 p.m. Saturday to a single-vehicle crash on I-10 West involving a 1997 Ford F-150. The truck had been moved from the original crash scene. It was parked on the shoulder and had major damage to the front end.
State Police said Whittington was the driver, but he left the scene before troopers arrived. State Police contacted Whittington, but he refused to return to the scene.
About 12:30 p.m. Monday, a grass-cutting crew found the body of Jenise Williams, 35, of Harvey, in the median on I-10 West.
Investigators said Williams had been struck by a vehicle. They named Whittington as the suspect in the fatal crash.
Whittington was arrested in Gonzales this afternoon. He was booked into the Ascension Parish Jail.
