JEFFERSON, La. (WGNO) – A Jefferson Parish middle school teacher was arrested Tuesday on more than 50 counts of possessing child pornography.

According to the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office, 38-year-old Edward Crowell, a teacher at Riverdale Middle School in Jefferson, is accused of having 51 sexually explicit videos of young girls between 4 and 12 years old.

Crowell’s wife turned him in to authorities after she found one of the videos on a thumb drive that her husband had given her. Investigators searched other devices belonging to Crowell and found 50 additional sexually explicit videos of children, the sheriff’s office said.

Crowell told deputies that he knew they were illegal. He said he forgot to delete them from his electronic storage.

The math and science teacher was picked up at Riverdale Middle and brought to the station for questioning.

Crowell was later booked into the Jefferson Parish Jail on 51 counts of possession of child pornography.

His bond is $150,000 for 30 of those counts, and he’s being held without bond for the remaining charges.
