KENNER, La. (WGNO) – A mother of three and another man were murdered Monday morning in a Kenner apartment. Police have ruled out a murder-suicide.

The Kenner Police Department confirms that a man and woman were shot multiple times inside an apartment in the 2100 block of Idaho Ave. while three small children were sleeping.

Police say 28-year-old Dawn Scott and her boyfriend 31-year-old Raynell Kimbrough were killed.

Ellen Scott, Dawn’s mother, told WGNO: “My baby was a good girl, a good mother. She’s at peace. God has her now.”

Around 7 a.m. police received a call about two people found in bed with a lot of blood.

Investigators say a 10-year-old boy inside the apartment heard gunshots. He went into his mother’s bedroom and found the couple.

Authorities say at that time he ran and knocked on a neighbor’s door.

One neighbor talked to WGNO about the chaos.

“I saw our neighbors holding the baby, and one of the neighbors actually got blood on her hand because the blanket that the baby was wrapped in had blood and you know the EMTs didn’t see that. So as soon as she see that she started breaking down crying,” said Gabriel Gonzales.

Police say three children were in the home at the time of the shootings. They are 10 years old, 2 years old, and an infant girl. They are all OK.

Dawn Scott was the mother of all three children. Raynell Kimbrough was the father of the infant.

Investigators say no cases or guns were found in the home, and there were no signs of forced entry. They have ruled out murder-suicide at this time.

Police say a man a was seen fleeing the scene in a gold car that looked like a Ford Taurus.
