Lafourche Parish Sheriff: inmates planned escape using gun carved from soap

THIBODAUX, La. (WGNO) – Two inmates face new charges after detectives uncovered their plan to escape using a gun they made from soap and toilet paper.

Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre says investigators found a fake gun and a handcuff key in Troy Benner’s cell. Investigators also found evidence of an escape plot.

Webre says 49-year-old Brenner planned the escape with Treiston Pierron, 32.

Inmate Benner was arrested in July for armed robbery stemming from a February 2015 incident in Lockport. He was charged with attempted simple escape in this incident, and his bond has increased to $400,000.

Inmate Pierron was arrested in August for simple arson stemming from a July 2015 incident, as well as numerous outstanding warrants for contempt of court. He is charged with assisting escape, and his bond has increased to $300,000.
