LULING, La. (WGNO) – Gunshots rang out early Tuesday morning in a Luling subdivision. St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s officials says a 30-year-old man fired nearly 40 times into his estranged wife’s parents’ home, hitting his father-in-law in the chest.
During a news conference, St. Charles Sheriff Greg Champagne said the bullet was slowed after going through the door and a sofa. The 59-year-old father was treated at University Medical Center and released.
Champagne said detectives found some accelerant and a makeshift Molotov cocktail at the scene. Also, the suspect sent his wife a text which read “bye-bye a-holes” several hours before the shooting.
Authorities arrested William Canada at the entrance to the Plantation subdivision. Canada is a former soldier who suffered a brain injuring while on tour in Afghanistan.
Champagne said Canada’s wife of two years filed for divorce about ten days ago.
