Hampton Police on the North Shore need your help locating a teenager wanted in a counterfeit cash case.

WGNO News Reporter Darian Trotter has the latest on the investigation that is growing.

This is security camera video from inside a popular retail store on the North Shore.

It shows three women investigators are calling suspects in a counterfeiting ring.

Police say the one seen wearing a neck brace is 19-year old Destacy Hampton of Harvey.

“Just terrible, terrible,” Julie Keller said.

“You work for your money and you get people like that to come along thinking they can get something for nothing,” Bobby Bounds said.

Watch as one of the suspects allegedly passes a counterfeit one hundred dollar bill to the clerk overwhelmed with holiday shoppers.

She holds up the cash and checks for a magnetic strip; but what the busy worker didn’t realize is that she was actually given a five dollar bill that had been altered.

“Shame on them, shame on them,” Keller said. “They shouldn’t be doing that.”

“How can they make a $5 dollar bill look like a $100 dollar bill?” Bounds asked.

When the fake 100-dollar bill is compared side by side to a real five dollar bill, both have magnetic strips.

But notice the hologram of Abraham Lincoln is the same on both bills.

“It’s amazing what the crooks can do,” Bounds said. “It seems like whenever you do on thing to stop them, they come up with something else. I’ve always said if people will just take the knowledge and use it like it should be it’s amazing what they can accomplish you know.”

Investigators say the trio passed 11-hundred dollars in bogus bills at this North Shore strip mall.

The funny money is being held as evidence.

“I’m shocked this is Mandeville,” Charlotte Couzillion said.

Now that authorities have identified Destacy Hampton from December video footage, they’re confident it won’t be long before her two alleged accomplices are also identified.

“Hope they get them all, absolutely,” Bounds said.

“I hope they find them and i hope they get what they deserve,” Keller added.

The Secret Service is involved in the investigation that now spans across the state.
