NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — Attention coffee and feline lovers! There’s a new Kickstarter campaign to bring a cafe to town that’s purrrrrrfect for those of you who want to sip your cup-of-joe while getting some quality time in with your cat. Miranda Schneider and her business  partner, Drew Rumley, are attempting to bring “Dat Cat Cafe” to NOLA.

“Dat Cat Cafe is slated to be New Orleans first, and Louisiana’s only, cat cafe, a rescue cat endeavor that’s going to allow people to spend time having positive human/animal interactions in the hopes of having cats adopted to good and loving homes,” said Miranda.

Cat cafes are popping up globally, but it is much more than just a place to grab a coffee and pet cats.

It is unique in the sense that it is an auxiliary cafe, however, it’s primarily an animal rescue endeavor where 8-10 cats are fostered,

Miranda and Drew have the cats properly examined and vaccinated, evaluated for viruses and parasites, and have them spayed or neutered as well as screened for temperament prior to making them available for adoption.  However, cats aren’t the only ones benefiting from this kickstarter.

According to Miranda cats are scientifically proven to lower your blood pressure, put you at ease, and solve disorders such a schizophrenia, creating overall better health. Cat lovers refer to it as “Purr Therapy.”

The atmosphere will be true to New Orleans flare, with live music events and cat lovers date night on the agenda, as well as educational courses.
