NEW ORLEANS (WGNO)- For nearly four decades, Tiffin Inn Pancake House Restaurant has been a popular breakfast spot for families in Metairie. On Sunday, the restaurant closed it’s doors at their Veterans Memorial Boulevard location after 38 years. WGNO’s Kenny Lopez visited the restaurant as families were enjoying their last meal at their favorite pancake house.
Lots of memories were made at Tiffin Inn and today customers were remembering the good times.
“I watched my best friend propose to his wife here a few years ago,” Keith Deane, said.
“We would come here every Sunday with my grandma who has now passed away to eat Tiffin’s banana pancakes, Ronald Geraci, said.
“I met a very good friend of mine at Tiffin Inn. He happens to be the boss at WGNO. Our daughters knew each other from school and my daughter went up to talk to his daughter,” Vico Marziale, said.
Everyone seems to have a Tiffin Inn tale and now that they are closing it’s time to take out the tissues. The restaurant lost it’s lease.
“There are a lot of families here today. It’s a place where people came because of the warm, friendly, family atmosphere. People valued it for a long time, so I think a part of the community will be gone,” Benjamin Conway, said.
On Tiffin Inn’s last day, customers say they had to come to gobble up the good grub and say goodbye to those who served the delicious food to them.
“I’m going to miss my favorite waitress, Darlene Hadley whose worked here since 1977.”
Darlene Hadley said, “I’m just devastated that we are closing. I hope and pray that we do find another location to re-locate to.”
Staff say they are currently looking to re-locate, but no decision has been made.
Tiffin Inn officially closes on May 31st at Midnight.
