NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) – Big things are happening at St. Mary’s Dominican High School.  The school made a special announcement about an innovative change in its curriculum and plans for expansion.  The big announcement came with a big celebration.  Reporter Deepak Saini  explains what’s changing at Dominican.

St. Mary’s Dominican High School is about to embark on a new way of learning.  They’re calling it the Stream Initiative.  It stands for:  Science Technology Religion Engineering Arts Mathematics.

Stream hopes to bridge the gap between the Catholic faith and modern Science.

“That helps us fully integrate faith and reason and it more fully integrates the humanities into what we’re trying to do with our science and technology programs,” says Dr. Cynthia Thomas, President of St. Mary’s Dominican High School.

To help boost the initiative, Dominican unveiled plans for a new science wing.  It’s a state-of-the-art facility that will house science labs, promote research and advanced technology.  The $10 Million project is expected to break ground next year and be complete in 2016.
