NEW ORLEANS (WGNO)- This wasn’t the day to be outside for your own enjoyment, but next time you’re on the riverfront in front of the Audubon Aquarium of the Americas, you must look for the new fountains. It’s part of the Woldenberg Park Riverfront renovations. News with a Twist’s Kenny Lopez gives us a first look!
Watch as the water spews out of these fountains! These fountains are dancing!
Max McCoy is one kid that enjoys playing in fountains especially in the hot summer months.
“I think it’s good because if you’re all sweaty then you can just run through it. I like how the fountains go up and down,” he said.
Rich Toth, Managing Director at the Audubon Aquarium of the Americas said with Woldenberg Prk being the front porch to the French Quarter they wanted to do something that would draw attention and somewhere where kids could cool off in the summertime.
“It’s a 90-foot linear fountain and the fountains go as high as 10-feet. The water is recylced so it’s city water that’s also been treated. It’s really clean water and we recycle it to continuously use it,” Toth said.
The fountains are part of a 5.3 million dollar project renovating Woldenberg Park’s Riverfront. The project was made possible thanks largely to Community Development Block Grants. In addition to the fountains, they’ve planted 35 palm trees, repaired bricks and slates on the plaza, and repaired the wharf.
The fountains even light up at night and have the ability to dance like the ones at the Bellagio in Las Vegas.
“At night we can run the fountains with LED lights, so we can do a Mardi Gras show or a holiday show,” he said.
The fountains will be turned on every day during regular business hours from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. (weather permitting).
