NEW ORLEANS(WGNO)– Sheriff Marlin Gusman and his OPSO team hosted the 42nd annual Sheriff Gusman’s Annual Thanksgiving dinner at Morial convention Center.
Pre-Katrina the event was held at the Hyatt, but since it has relocated to New Orleans Convention Center.
Highlights included a performance by Grammy Award winning artist, Imra Thomas along with performances from local groups Leo Nocentelli, James Andrews, Earl Smith, Chucky C., Bobby J., and more.
“It’s just the joy you feel when people say thank you, and when you see them enjoying themselves,” commented Sheriff Gusman on why he has enjoyed putting on the party year after year. The Sheriff’s family was there beside him for the Thanksgiving day dinner.
Volunteers from around the country flock to the convention center to be apart of the days celebrations. One couple from Illinois- Frank and Fran, travel south for the winter, beginning the week of Thanksgiving. “We were on our way to the south and we thought it would nice to find a group to volunteer here with since we don’t have any family here,” said Frank. “We’ve loved helping out here, and can’t believe we haven’t done it sooner.”
