NEW ORLEANS, La. (WGNO)– On Sunday, August 16, 2015 at the New Orleans Lakefront Arena, the city’s most preeminent Japanese restaurants, cultural institutions, chefs and Asian aficionados will congregate from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. for this year’s Sushi Fest. Sushi and Japanese-inspired dishes will be for sale, and tickets are $15.00 in advance and $25.00 at the door. Parking will be complimentary.
Cheryl Lemoine, the primary coordinator of this year’s festival says, “New Orleans is both a culinary leader and a lover of festivals, so we’ve decided to create an event honoring one of America’s favorite imports: Sushi!”
This year’s participating restaurants include—but are not limited to—the following: Rock-N-Sake Bar & Sushi, Lakeview Pearl Sushi Bar & Asian Bistro, Chiba, Katie’s Restaurant, Tsunami Sushi of Baton Rouge & Lafayette, Seither’s Seafood, ToGoSushi, Mizado Cucina, Conola Grill & Sushi, RPM FroYo, Vitascope Hall, Miyako Hibachi & Sushi, Costco, House of Blues and 12 Season’s/Mr. Mudbug Catering.
In addition, VIP tickets ($75.00 in advance and $100.00 at the door) will allow patrons access to a Mardi Gras Productions-created Japanese Garden, an individual sushi tray from Rock-N-Sake, a piece of “sushi art” created by Studio Inferno, delights from Pigeon Caterers and “sushi dessert” by The Sweet Life Bakery. These guests will also enjoy unlimited Saporro Beer, Clos du Bois Wine, Ty Ku Sake and a signature cocktail by Licor 43 (this cocktail will be available to VIPs throughout the entire festival). All drinks will be available for purchase to general admission ticket holders.
Guests will also enjoy music by Flow Tribe, Japanese entertainment and the chance to participate in the Cat’s Meow Karaoke Club and can enter a raffle for two flights to Japan. Japanese arts and crafts, including sushi “accessories” and origami, will be available in the marketplace, and a portion of all proceeds will benefit The Japan Club of New Orleans and The Japan Society of New Orleans.
The New Orleans Hotel Collection, the official hotel sponsor of Sushi Fest, will offer special room rates for the event, and additional sponsors include the following: Xplore Federal Credit Union, Mardi Gras Productions, Clos du Bois Wine, Saporro Beer, Ty Ku Sake, Licor 43, East Jefferson General Hospital, Cat’s Meow, The Sweet Life Bakery and Rock-N-Sake.
Created in 2014, New Orleans Sushi Fest is a celebration of the food and culture of Japan and seeks to bring that culture to the New Orleans area. The event’s first year saw over 2,500 in attendance and the goal is see this annual event grow each subsequent year.
