NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — New Orleans police are looking for a team of cigarette thieves. The case is the latest to roll on the Wheel of Justice.
Police say in all of the cases, a man and woman worked together to steal cigarettes from stores and in at least one of the cases, the pair had help from a third person who worked as a lookout at a store’s front door.
Police say the heists all went down about the same way. A man and woman enter a store and either force their way into the office, storage room, or behind the counter. Then they begin grabbing cartons of cigarettes, usually putting them in a bag or the woman’s purse.
The first case happened on September 7 at about 7:30 in the morning at the Walgreens in the 4200 block of Chef Menteur Highway. The second happened at about 1:00 in the afternoon at the Family Dollar in the 3600 block of South Carrollton. The most recent case reported by police happened on September 12 at 9:30 in the morning at the Circle K in the 3700 block of South Carrollton Avenue.
Police say in every case, the thieves left the scene in a gray Chevrolet Monte Carlo. Police releases a series of photos from the investigation. You can see them by clicking through the photo gallery at the top of this page.
