GRETNA, La. (WGNO) – The Hook and Ladder Cemetery was established back in 1858 and it’s starting to show its age.

To raise money for the old grounds, the Gretna Historical Society will be giving tours of the final resting place of the cemetery’s colorful residents.

While touring in a cemetery at night may sound spooky, the group’s vice president promises it’s a fun and educational tour.

“This is not a ghost tour. This a celebration of life,” said Paul Coles of the GHS.  “This is not skulls and crossbones, this is all about telling the history of Gretna. telling about some of the life of what it was like living here.”

The 3rd Annual Hook and Ladder Cemetery Tour is already sold out.  But the group is considering adding a second night of tours next year.
