HARVEY, La. (WGNO) – Jefferson Parish Sheriff Newell Normand gave additional details Wednesday on the Carnival season arrest and beating of a teen by an undercover officer.
17-year-old Brady Becker was arrested in the Lakeside Mall Macy’s parking garage Friday, February 13, 2015.

Sheriff Normand, said the catholic school student and football player was “picking a fight with the plainclothes deputy,” but when officers tried to arrest Becker, he attacked them.
Normand said you don’t see that in the video, which has now gone viral. The video does show Becker being punched repeatedly. He was taken to the hospital with an eye injury.

Becker has been charged with battery on an officer, resisting arrest, and inciting a riot.
The FBI and JPSO are currently investigating the case.
On Wednesday, the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Department held a press conference where they read transcripts and painted a picture of an unruly, drunk teenage who instigated a fight.
“That’s not what we’re paid for. We’re not paid to get spit on. We’re not paid to get punched. We’re not paid to get kicked. We’re not paid for any of that,” Sheriff Normand said.
Sheriff Normand also said Becker’s mother gave the teenager advice, in a jailhouse phone call, on how to circumvent the law.
But the issue of who threw the first punch is still the deputy’s version, versus the teenager’s version.
