Bradley Parvez, 31, has been booked with second degree murder for shooting a man outside his house in the 1900 block of Fern Street. (WGNO)

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) – Police are trying to determine if a former NOPD recruit and the man he shot and killed on his front lawn Thursday morning in East Carrollton knew each other.

The shooting happened around 10 a.m. outside the home Bradley Parvez rented in the 1932 block of Fern Street.

Police say when detectives arrived they discovered the victim on the ground. He had been shot multiple times through the front door window of a home. Police say the victim did not have a weapon on him.

31-year-old Parvez has been booked with second degree murder.

At the scene, Sgt. Nicholas Gernon kept repeating that Parvez felt the victim was in his yard.

Officials said that during questioning, Parvez declined to give a statement and his lawyer was present.

It’s unclear if they exchanged words before the shooting. Police are working to determine a possible motive.

The NOPD says Parvez was on the force from March 2005 until he resigned in February 2006. They say he never became an officer; instead he was a recruit who went through the academy and left before the end of his field training.

According to Parvez’s LinkedIn account he was also a patrol at Tulane and a U.S. Army Specialist from July 2001 until October 2012.

A neighbor called Parvez a “quiet person” who didn’t bother anyone.

“So I don’t know if he was stressed out or what,” neighbor Raymond Cooper told WGNO.

Homicide Detective Wayne DeLarge is in charge of the investigation and can be contacted at 504-658-5300.

The Coroner will identify the deceased after notification of family members and will perform an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
