THIBODAUX, La. (WGNO) – In Thibodaux, a group of neighbors are battling Wal-Mart.

We are going to fight it,” says neighbor Justin Tenney. “We formed this organization.”

The newly created Concerned Citizens of Lafourche meet Wednesday to learn more how to stop a proposed Wal-Mart neighborhood big box store from going up at Percy Brown Rd. and Highway 1.

They’re concerned about potential problems with heavy traffic, drainage, infrastructure, lighting, crime, pollution and noise .

Tenney says the CCL has the means to convince higher ups at Walmart to build their 50,000 square foot grocery story somewhere else, ““From a legal standpoint we have solid ground on which we have proceeded with action.”

They are confident past zoning agreements will show laws favor the CCL’s side.

The CCL has collected 1,100 signatures on a petition opposed to the Walmart neighborhood store being built.

“It’s a nice rural setting on the outskirts of what I feel is the best place to live,” says Tenney.
