NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) – Several intersections in the Bywater are closed after a train derailed early Wednesday morning.
The derailment occurred near the intersection of Press and Burgundy streets about 5:15 a.m. and it involved about eight train cars, a spokesperson with CSX and Scott Public Belt Railroad said.
The New Orleans Fire Department said no hazardous materials were on board. Six train cars were empty and two had some asphalt residue. None of the cars were leaking.
No injuries were also reported.

The following intersections have been blocked until further notice due to the derailment:
- Press at Chartres
- Press at Royal
- Press at Dauphine
- Press at Burgundy
- Press at St. Claude
Those traveling to or from the affected area are urged to take Claiborne Avenue as an alternate route until further notice.
