(WGNO) — Jefferson Parish deputies announced the arrest of 60-year-old Donnie London of Plaquemine in connection with a murder from 1984.
On April 7, 1984, the body of 73-year-old Elma Kolman was found in a vacant lot in the 300 block of Monticello Avenue in Jefferson. She’d been sexually assaulted, beaten, and strangled.
Deputies say the case went cold. But a review of the evidence in the case led to a DNA analysis that connected London to the attack.
At the time of the murder, deputies say London lived down the street from Kolman. They say London was arrested and removed from the nursing home where he was living. With the help of medical personnel, London was transported back to Jefferson Parish and booked with first degree murder.
Deputies say Kolman confessed to the killing and told detectives that he initially intended to rob Kolman but the confrontation escalated into violence.
Deputies also say London has previous convictions on burglary, drug, battery and other charges.
