NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) – A 26-year veteran of the New Orleans Police Department has been placed on an emergency suspension without pay after the department learned of his involvement with juveniles, an initial release said.

Officer Willie A. Gant Sr. was arrested Tuesday on two count of indecent behavior with juveniles and two counts of sexual battery on a juvenile.

On Monday, the NOPD Public Integrity Bureau with the NOPD Special Victims Unit launched an investigation after learning of the allegations. Following his arrest Gant was immediately placed on emergency suspension pending the outcome of the investigation.

Gant was most recently assigned to the NOPD Eighth District Mounted Unit.

Gant is the fifth NOPD officer to be charged with a felony this month.
